The Project: Adding Value through product redesign-learning from users to design better products.

As part of a third-year redesign project each group was assigned a product purchased by our tutor at random. Our tasks were to apply deep and rigorous research to become familiar with the end user and product market. We had to redesign the product through design methodologies, examine product functionality and usability, whilst applying an appropriate aesthetic for the targeted market.

For the assignment we were given a 2 slice toaster to perform our research on. The toaster provided is seen in the photos above.


Next some sketches of the original toaster were preformed. These sketches showed some problem areas which could be looked at and improved. Some of the main problems included: size of the toaster slots, visual display, and basic design in general.
